I have had the pleasure of configuring both of these phones for over the air email with exchange and POP email servers.
FACT: both phones WILL NOT sync contacts and calendar over the air with the exchange server built into windows server 2003.
FACT: you will most likely have to use a 3rd party SMTP. Example: cwmx.com offered by AT&T.
GOOD NEWS: the SDK for iphone will be released in 2/08.
BAD NEWS: this will open the door for hacks and virus/malware for iphone users.
